5 Healthy Lifestyle Tips from a Registered Dietician

1. Eat Breakfast

Sure, we've heard it's "the most important meal of the day" but with packed mornings trying to get places, it doesn't always happen. Set your day up for success by having something with protein and fiber--two things that give a meal staying power and fuel your morning. Avocado toast with an egg on top and a CHOMPS stick make a great combo! 

2. Pancakes for the Table Vibes

When eating out I try to opt for something with veggies and protein but if there's a sweet treat on the menu that we've all got our eyes on, I say order it for the table! Sharing is built in portion control and this way you'll feel more satisfied with the balance of both items. Enjoying fun foods with the people around you is what I believe contributes to a healthy balance too.

3. Think Green

We want more in our wallet and more in our diets too! Leafy greens are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber needed for a healthy body. Try adding a handful of greens to your meals at least once a day like in a smoothie, salad, stir-fry or on the side of fish or meat. I never leave the grocery store without kale, spinach or some type of green I can add to my meals throughout the week! 

4. There's a Veggie for That

Trying to cut back on refined flour, gluten or grains? There's a veggie for that! For pasta night swap regular noodles with spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles. Add cauliflower or broccoli rice to stir-fry and salads and use two halves a pepper to make a sandwich instead of bread! #pepperwich You'll be slashing calories, but more importantly ADDING nutrition! 

5. Always Pack Snacks

You can never be too prepared for what the day will bring so if all else fails, make sure you stash some healthy snacks in your bag. I've always got nuts, a refillable water bottle, CHOMPS, and nut butter in my bag because I know I'll feel satisfied and won't have to resort to a sugary convenience store snack in a pinch!
