This month we're so excited to feature Kimberly as our Chompian of the Month! Kimberly is a fifth-grade math teacher who set a goal for herself to run 10 half marathons before the age of 30. She encourages her classroom and coworkers daily and uses Chomps to fuel her on-the-go lifestyle. We hope you find Kimberly's story as inspirational as we did! 

Can you tell us about yourself - what you do, a bit about your story, etc.?

My name is Kimberly Laker. I am a third-year fifth grade math teacher in the DFW area. While in college to become a teacher I started running in my free time as a way to decompress from school. My sophomore year of college I decided to run my first half marathon and after that I was hooked. I set a goal for myself to run 10 before the age of 30. I am currently 25 and have run five halves, just ran my first full marathon in December, and am currently training for my sixth half marathon in February.


What’s your best tip on how to stay positive?

My best tip for how to stay positive is by being active, preferably outside! I am a big believer in endorphins and the sun are so healing for your mental and physical health.

How do you consider yourself a “game changer?”

I think that I am a game changer because of my goal to encourage one another daily. I love getting to be the cheerleader for my co-workers and to continue to hype them up. I feel that words of affirmation are a huge way to make your environment a better place for all.


What’s the best thing you do for your personal health everyday (mental or physical or both!) that allows you to be the best version of yourself?

The best thing I do is self discipline so that I wake up during the week at four am in order to exercise. Despite the obvious, of getting endorphins from exercise, it helps me to obtain my physical goals to stay in shape and train for various running events. I have noticed that on days that I take care of myself before school I am a much better co worker and teacher.

How are you planning to challenge yourself in the next year?

This year I ran a marathon for the first time ever!! The furthest I had run prior was 14 miles.

How does Chomps fuel your lifestyle?

As I have been training, one of my biggest struggles is the fueling aspect. I struggle to get enough protein in my diet but chomps have played a huge role in helping me reach my protein goals. They are great snacks to have at school, and even for the occasional breakfast.
