Chompian of the Month: Shayla Meyer

We're excited to feature our Chompian of the Month, division one volleyball athlete and aspiring dental hygienist, Shayla Meyer! Shayla's attitude and energy make her a game changer, and her favorite part of the day is her morning routine. Chomps has helped Shayla fuel on-the-go, whether running to class after morning lift or keeping her nourished throughout lectures. 

Can you tell us about yourself - what you do, a bit about your story, etc.?

I am a proud member of the Ole Miss Volleyball team and am studying to become a dental hygienist once my volleyball career is complete. I love being active and take a lot of pride in living a healthy lifestyle through my diet, movements, recovery, and relationships! Growing up in rural Nebraska and living on a farm my entire childhood, my family was also very active. Both of my parents were collegiate athletes as well as my three older sisters. They were diligent in teaching us the importance of hard work, resiliency, and competitiveness from a young age, and I have my family to thank for the opportunities I have been blessed with and the mindset I developed!

What’s your best tip on how to stay positive?

I am a believer that everything happens for a reason. Staying positive is not always easy, especially when everything in life seems to be going wrong. Learning thanksgiving and appreciating these experiences has helped me live with a positive mindset.

How do you consider yourself a “game changer?”

I consider myself a game changer because of the attitude and energy I bring to my relationships. Taking care of myself and being healthy off the court is something I take a lot of pride in and has led me to be more dependable and positively influential to my teammates, friends, and family.

What’s the best thing you do for your personal health everyday (mental or physical or both!) that allows you to be the best version of yourself?

Something that is so important to my health is self-care and personal time. Being constantly on the go with meetings, practice, weights, classes, and attempting to have a social life, my social battery gets very low. Every day, I wake up early enough so I can go through my morning routine (my favorite part of the day) and at night I take time to settle down and let my mind clear before going to sleep. I find so much joy in a slow morning and setting myself up in preparation for a busy day. Finding this personal time has been vital to keeping my mental health sane through my hectic life.

How are you planning to challenge yourself in the next year?

A challenge I am taking on this year is becoming the healthiest version of myself yet. I am learning what my body needs for peak performance and developing habits to support that, so further exploring that this year will be so much fun and I can’t wait to feel the process and see the progress!

How does Chomps fuel your lifestyle?

Chomps has been so helpful to fueling my life as a division one volleyball athlete (and student!) by replenishing me during my midday rush. I go to classes right after morning lift and practice, so I don’t have time to sit down and eat a proper lunch until I get home. Snacking on a stick as I walk to class has helped me keep up with my protein needs and keeps me nourished through lectures. I love the clean ingredients used in Chomps meat sticks and is the perfect snack when I’m in a rush and on the go!
